  Server Crash
Posted by: markg - 08-30-2010, 06:18 AM - Forum: News & Events - Replies (4)

the server crashed last night (games, teamspeak, stats, etc) with a hardware problem - it wont power on.

i suspect it is a power supply problem, and if so it will be up this afternoon. if not.....not sure when. i have a spare power supply and microprocessor, but no spare motherboard.

anyway, i moved teamspeak to another computer for now, so it should work fine, although the channels are from a month old backup.

the forums are hosted separately and not affected.

fyi.

  TeamSpeak update
Posted by: markg - 08-07-2010, 04:56 PM - Forum: News & Events - No Replies

so the latest TeamSpeak server/client updates fixed a few things, and added a LOT of new features.

one of them, the web server list, lists ALL TeamSpeak servers within a given location, which can be varied by country/city/full/password protected/etc. Pretty good stuff.

trouble is, they defaulted the servers to broadcast this info.

That explains the scores of 1 minute visitors. most of them just join and leave, but one stuck around today long enough for me to ask how they found the server - via the web server list!

so now it is disabled! back to normal.

in the future, however, i may have to password protect the server. the password will be nbs (not hiding it from gamers, just strangers) but if you are registered on the server, there is also a new key for members of groups (in our case clan members) to bypass entering the password! so it will be only for guests (or members who have to reinstall their ts and didnt backup their id's).

fyi.

  Major Forum Upgrade
Posted by: markg - 08-04-2010, 10:23 AM - Forum: News & Events - No Replies

I just completed a major forum upgrade today. Everything seems to be working fine, but if you see anything that isnt, let me know.

Please note; some of the plugins we were using were incorporated into this version, and some are not updated yet, so one feature, rss feeds, will be down until it is updated. Everything else should be working.

[edit] rss feeds are working!

  TeamSpeak update
Posted by: markg - 08-02-2010, 07:17 PM - Forum: News & Events - No Replies

another update to both server and client
my 64bit client seems a bit unstable; the 32bit one seems ok.

they did a bunch of bug fixes and added a number of features, most of which we wont use.

but, if you want to see country flags associated with people's names, click on 'settings/options/display country flags on clients'

[edit] i deinstalled/cleared the cache/reinstalled and that seems to have fixed the problem.
[edit] NOT FIXED - do NOT upgrade if you have the 64bit client; 32bit seems to work ok
